Common Business Insurance Questions

Answers to what we hear most often from business owners.

A Business Owner's Policy (BOP) bundles general liability and commercial property coverage into one policy, often at a lower combined cost. It's designed for small to mid-sized businesses with straightforward risks. Larger businesses or those with specialized needs may need those coverages separately or in addition to a BOP.

Yes. In Florida, most businesses with 4 or more employees (full or part-time) are required to carry workers' compensation insurance. Construction businesses have stricter requirements; they must carry it with even just one employee. Non-compliance can result in stop-work orders and significant fines.

General liability covers third-party bodily injury, third-party property damage, and personal/advertising injury claims. For example: a customer slips and falls at your location, you accidentally damage a client's property, or someone claims your ad infringed on their copyright. It does not cover your own employees or your business's own property.

If you regularly use your personal vehicle for business purposes (making deliveries, visiting clients, transporting equipment), your personal auto policy may not cover a claim that occurs during business use. A commercial auto policy or a business use endorsement on your personal policy is typically needed to close that gap.
